Nothing tops a mom’s hug

Nothing is more soothing than mama. Now there’s proof!

A recent study from the University of Wisconsin-Madison showed that girls aged 7 to 12 put in a stressful situation, but afterward soothed by physical touch and words of support by their moms, showed a rise in oxytocin (the soothing “love” hormone) and a drop in cortisol, or stress hormone.

Surprisingly, girls soothed by their moms by only a phone call showed similar results. Girls who watched a cute movie (“March of the Penguins”) after their stressful situation showed no rise in oxytocin and continued elevation of cortisol, even one hour later. You can read more about the study at MSNBC’s web site.

Count this as one more reason to go home and cuddle those little cuties! They really do take a cue from you!
