Birth story: “Incredibly intense”

Congratulations to Carolyn on the birth of her second baby, Vincent. For mamas who wonder how quickly dilation can really happen, read on!

Carolyn & family

My Blooma baby #2 came in to the world fast and furiously.  I went from 4 cm to having the baby in three hours.

Labor with my first baby was incredibly peaceful, I was relaxed, in the zone and felt completely control. This baby was another story – so incredibly intense and I had much harder time getting in and staying in the zone.

My calming husband, amazing midwife team at HCMC, the glorious birth tub and of course all my yoga at Blooma helped me to have a beautiful, natural birth.

Vincent was born August 4 at 6:43 p.m., 8lbs 15oz, 21 inches long, ten fingers, ten toes and multiple chins. He’s a chunk and we love him.

Big thanks to Sarah and all those contractions she acted out (yes, they really are that loud and yes, they really sound that ridiculous and no, you really don’t care how ridiculous they sound).

Thanks to Channing McKinley who helped get baby in to the proper position and made me much more comfortable throughout my pregnancy.  Thank you to all the of the Blooma mamas who I met on the mat each week – I am so happy to be part of such an incredible community!

Baby Eila

Hello Sarah & Team,

I am really happy to announce the birth of Eila. She was born at 2:47 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011 at a healthy 7 lbs, 1 oz.  She measured 20.34 in. All in all, a healthy baby girl.

I went home (the night before) from Sarah’s yoga class and woke up at 2:45 a.m. to the first real contraction. They started coming close together surprisingly quickly, and by 8 a.m. Mark, (my doula) Sondra Doty, and I were at HCMC and 6 cm dilated.

Baby Eila was born after 12 intense hours, making her way into the world with mom in full yogi squat in the tub with the help of an amazing team at HCMC, led by midwife Kathryn Leggitt.

Thanks for all the support during the pregnancy, and I look forward to returning for some Bring Your Own Baby yoga classes when we are ready.
