Write Your Baby’s Birth Story—Aug. 10

Gather with other moms for a cozy, evening workshop that gives you the space, support and encouragement to write your baby’s birth story. The Friday Aug. 10, 7-9 p.m. workshop is perfect for mamas who:

  • want to create a keepsake of their birthing experience, or
  • need to process their birthing experience, or
  • want to write down a previous birthing experience before giving birth again

Blooma blogger Alisa Blackwood (that’s me) facilitates the evening with a bit of yoga and some no-anxiety writing exercises. Then you’ll have space to spread out, get comfy, and begin writing your story.

Blooma is a safe space to revisit these memories and let them flow onto paper (or laptop) — whether you gave birth recently or many years ago. And yes, there will be tissues!

You’re welcome to bring anything that helps you remember your birthing day— an mp3 player and earbuds with your labor playlist, notes from your doula, records from your care provider (call and ask for them now), or photos.

Check out what one recent participant of Writing Your Baby’s Birth Story had to say about her experience:

I thought it was absolutely perfect and Alisa was so great! It was the perfect balance between reflecting on a personal level but also feeling the support of the group. I have had a little writer’s block on my birth story and I am not sure what happened that night but it just flowed right out of me. I would definitely recommend this to everyone.

Infant massage workshop this Sunday!

You’ve been asking for weekend Rub-a-Dub Baby classes, now we’re delivering! This Sunday, 12:30-1:30 p.m. Alisa Blackwood (that’s me) teaches infant massage to parents of babies aged 3 weeks old through pre-crawling at our Minneapolis studio. (Sign up here.)

Your baby will adore your soothing, loving touch, while you enjoy connecting with your cutie during this bonding time.

Did you know that regular infant massage can also help baby sleep deeper and longer and relieve gas and constipation? Dads benefit tremendously, too — one study showed that babies of fathers who regularly massage them are more expressive and interactive with them during play times.

You’re welcome to feed baby by breast or bottle any time during class, as well as diaper change. Don’t worry: even if your little one is fussy or asleep during parts of class, you’ll still learn a baby massage routine to take home with you, plus you’ll receive handouts to take home.

Learn more about the class (what to bring, how to dress baby) and sign up now. Class is $18 per parent; feel free to use your class pass. My 6-month-old daughter loves her mama-baby massage time and yours will, too!

Love,

Alisa, Sarah & the women of Blooma

Welcome Earthside, Baby Girl Blackwood Nelson

Hi mamas,

It’s Jenni Derryberry Mann, former Blooma prenatal yoga teacher, filling in for Alisa. Here’s the situation:

At 4pm this afternoon, the best text message pinged my phone. Sent by your favorite Blooma blogger Alisa Blackwood, it said:

My baby girl was born into my hands at 10:59 a.m. CST during a FAST, beautiful water birth at home. No decision on the name yet… xo

And with that, Blooma mamas, we’ll kick off birth stories week here in the e-studio! It might be a while yet before we get the full story on Alisa’s amazing birth; in the meantime, we have a lot of beautiful stories coming up this week!

Love,

Jenni, Sarah & the women of Blooma
