Prepping for Baby’s Arrival

Between the baby showers and all the endless recommendations from friends (“you HAVE to get this” or that) — how do you know what you really need for baby’s arrival?

Actually, you don’t need much.

A few onesies (long and short-sleeved), a couple of newborn baby hats, pajamas or outfits with footies, your choice of diapers and some swaddling blankets.

As a bonus: a baby carrier like a Boba Baby Wrap or Carrier (sold at Blooma!) makes life easier for you and oh-so-snuggly for both you and baby.

That’s pretty much it. Are there other essentials you can think of? Do share.

We also adore this New Baby Checklist from LüSa Organics. It details all the must-have items in greater detail, plus lists the extras that are nice to have, too. So if you’re hoping to pare down and not go too bonkers with stuff, definitely check out the LüSa Organics list. Then let us know what you think!

A pack of disposable diapers make for the best burp clothes, they are by far more absorbant than those “burp clothes” they sell. A car mirror to see your baby while they are rear facing in their car seat. Lastly, 2 sets of sheets, 2 sets of changing table covers, the “breast friend” nursing pillow, and a sound machine. Wait on a swing, bouncy chair, carrier, playmat, etc…try a friends before you buy one because every baby is different and why spend money you dont know if your baby will even like.

YES! For sure. If you’re willing to shell out some cash, Nordstrom also has amazingly comfortable nursing bras and they do a great fitting. The experience surprised me (I was totally wearing the wrong size!) and I justified the expense since I planned to wear them through nursing two babies. Experts differ on when you should get fitted; some say before baby is born, some say after. Here’s one article about choosing a nursing bra: http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/nursing-bras/buying-guide.htm
Are there any lactation counselors/consultants out there who can speak to when it’s ideal to be fitted?
